A Gardnerella infection is also more ordinarily known as bacterial vaginosis (Bv). Bv is caused by an overgrowth of bacteria that live within the vagina. Two of the most base bacteria that cause this infection are from the Gardnerella house – Gardnerella vaginalis and Gardnerella mobiluncus. When these bacteria multiply, they can cause unpleasant vaginal symptoms.
Gardnerella Infection Causes – There are distinct things that can cause an imbalance of vaginal bacteria. This can comprise having sex with a new partner, having sex with a woman who has Bv, and douching. There are also countless other ways to disrupt the balance of vaginal flora.

Gardnerella Infection Symptoms – Many women do not feel symptoms of bacterial vaginosis. They have the bacteria usually living within their flora but they never found an infection. Women who do get Bv infections, complain of a strong fish-like vaginal odor, discharge that is white or grey, painful intercourse, painful urination, and vaginal itching. These are the most base symptoms.
Gardnerella Infection treatment – In order to be treated for Bv, women must first make sure that it is not a yeast infection. Bv and yeast infections tend to yield similar symptoms but are treated very differently. Yeast infections are treated with anti-fungal medications where Bv is treated with antibiotics. Two of the most base antibiotics prescribed for bacterial vaginosis include: metronidazole and clindamycin. These do not all the time work any way and women can become immune to antibiotics if they take them repeatedly. There are also natural Gardnerella infection treatments together with boric acid, garlic, and hydrogen peroxide applications to name a few.
